But much like Spiderman: Homecoming, Jumanji succeeds to impress the viewers. Jumanji gets a modern age makeover where now instead of a board game it is a video game.
Four teenagers with varying personalities are put together in a detention. Here they discover the Jumanji video game and enter the world of Jumanji as their avatars.
Then starts the fun ride. There are enough plot holes like how did the video game end up in a high school from Alex's freak house. The movie uses time tested cliche - Four teenagers with some flaw realize their shortcomings when literally seen from some other's point of view.
But the fun parts of the movie makes us forget them, at least till the movie ends. The movie does not take itself seriously, and that is a huge plus point.
The plot of the movie is crazy, there are man eating albino what?! But such craziness has been ridiculed in the movie itself, which makes you fall in love with it more.
The bigger plus for the movie has been the performance of the lead actors. All of them have created niche for themselves in the film industry.
Jumanji has used such niche beautifully and built very funny characters. Parts where Dwayne Johnson Spencer stops to admire his own physique will have you in splits.
Not to mention his hilarious display of 'smoldering intensity'. All in all, Jumanji is a movie that you can watch without any regret.

Dabei entdecken sie, dass sich nach jeder Rückkehr die Zahl der Streifen auf ihrem Unterarm um einen reduziert hat, wodurch der Gruppe bewusst wird, dass jeder von ihnen nur drei Leben hatte und ihnen beim Verlust ihres letzten Lebens wohl der endgültige Tod droht.
Die Gruppe erkennt, dass sie nur gemeinsam das Spiel verlassen kann und es sich bei Jefferson um Alex Vreeke handelt, der vor 20 Jahren von der Konsole in das Spiel gesaugt wurde.
Er lebt in einem Dschungelhaus, das dessen früherer Bewohner namens Alan Parrish errichtet hat. In Level 4 entwenden sie aus einem Lagerhaus einen Helikopter und schaffen es damit durch die Jaguarschlucht, wobei Spencer in einer waghalsigen Aktion eines von Fridges Leben opfert, um das verloren gegangene Juwel zurückzuholen.
Da wird Alex von einem Moskito gestochen, wodurch er sein letztes Leben verliert und zusammenbricht, doch Bethany kann ihn wiederbeleben, indem sie eines ihrer verbliebenen zwei Leben auf Alex überträgt.
Am Jaguarschrein angekommen, der sich auf einem hohen Felsen befindet, schafft die Gruppe es gemeinsam und unter Einsatz der vorletzten Leben Spencers und Marthas, das Juwel wieder in den Jaguarkopf einzusetzen.
Sie werden von Nigel abgeholt und wieder zurück in ihre Welt geschickt. Auf dem Weg nach Hause kommen sie an dem nun nicht mehr verwahrlosten, sondern sehr ansehnlichen Haus von Alex vorbei und treffen dort auf ihn.
Er wurde in aus dem Spiel geworfen, ist entsprechend älter geworden und hat mittlerweile eine Familie. Seine Tochter benannte er nach Bethany, da sie im Spiel eines ihrer Leben für ihn geopfert hat.
Tage später treffen sich die Vier, die inzwischen feste Freunde geworden sind, in der Schule, wo sich Spencer und Martha zum ersten Mal küssen. In seiner Freizeit spielt er am liebsten Computerspiele.
Im Spiel wird Spencer zu Dr. Zudem geht von Bravestone eine Aura aus, die selbst seine Gruppenmitglieder beeindruckt. Bravestone hat keine Schwächen.
Da er Bedenken hat, seine Hausarbeiten könnten für ein Weiterkommen in der Schule nicht gut genug sein, nimmt er Spencers Hilfe in Anspruch, den er schon aus Kindertagen kennt.
Zu seinen Fähigkeiten zählt detailliertes Wissen über die Tierwelt Jumanjis, jedoch kann er nicht schnell rennen, und wenn er Kuchen isst, explodiert er.
Professor Oberon ist im Spiel ein untersetzter Mann, und als Kartograph kann er als einziger der Gruppe die Karte lesen, die ihnen zu Beginn des Spiels überreicht wurde.
Für Bethany ist es in seinem Körper eine völlig neue Erfahrung, ein Mann zu sein. Martha sondert sich meist von ihren anderen Mitschülern ab.
Sie mag keinen Sport und will lieber nur das lernen, was sie auf das Leben und ein Studium vorbereitet.
Ihr fällt es schwer, mit Jungs zu reden. Heimlich ist sie ein wenig in Spencer verliebt. Rubys Schwäche ist Gift. Allerdings hat Alex bislang nicht bemerkt, wie lange er schon in dem Spiel feststeckt.
Upon realizing his identity, the group is collectively shocked upon learning how long he has been trapped in the game, although Alex thought he'd only been there a few months.
Now with a common goal, the group vows to help Alex return home with them. Dealing with further problems while heading for the shrine, the group coordinate to overcome them.
They eventually reach the shrine, but Van Pelt corners them. Working together, Fridge, Bethany, and Alex distract him while Spencer and Martha outmaneuver him with the game's mechanics, returning the jewel to the statue.
Upon calling out Jumanji, the group destroy Van Pelt and, after sharing a handshake with Nigel, return to the real world.
Returning to the school basement, the foursome find Alex is not with them. While walking home, they unexpectedly find the Vreeke home restored and decorated for a Christmas family gathering.
The group is greeted by Alex, now an adult, who explains that he managed to miraculously return to , which allowed him to lead a married life with children.
His daughter is named after Bethany, who revived him with one of her lives in the game. The four students become friends after their experiences in the game, with Bethany becoming a better person, Spencer and Fridge patching things up, and Spencer starting a relationship with Martha.
When the group hear Jumanji ' s drumbeats coming from the game cartridge, Fridge crushes it with a bowling ball to prevent anyone else from playing it.
